Hi, I’m Ben — owner of Night To Remember and a full-time professional wedding DJ. I have been DJing professionally for over 16 years now and I still get the same buzz every single weekend. I love music from every era, but my favourite sets usually mix Soul, Funk, Disco, and 90’s–00’s dance with a few surprises thrown in. My style is upbeat, full of energy, and focused on creating a proper atmosphere — not cheesy mic work or “OGGY OGGY OGGY” moments.
When couples book me, they’re trusting me with one of the biggest days of their lives, and that’s something I never take lightly. I’ll work closely with you to make sure your night runs smoothly and feels exactly like you.
Why Do You Need An Experienced Wedding DJ?
Experience makes a massive difference. Playing music is one thing — but knowing when to play it, how to read a crowd, and how to keep the dancefloor full all night long is something that only comes with time.
A good wedding DJ understands the flow of the whole day: from relaxed drinks and dinner right through to the moment everyone kicks off their shoes, put their ties around their heads and lets loose. You need someone who knows when to bring the energy up, when to slow it down, and how to recover the dancefloor if things dip.
One of my favourite weddings was a few years ago — the crowd and I just clicked. From the first song to the last, the energy never dipped once. Everyone was singing, dancing, and grinning from ear to ear. Those are the nights that remind me exactly why I love what I do.
Reviews and Videos
If you’re looking for your wedding DJ, don’t skip the reviews and videos. Reviews give you a genuine feel for how reliable and professional someone is, and how they handle the night when things don’t go exactly to plan (because that’s real life).
Videos are even better — you can see their style, how they interact with guests, and whether they can keep people engaged. I always tell couples: if you can watch a DJ’s videos and imagine that kind of energy at your wedding, you’re probably onto a winner.
The Importance Of Booking A Professional Wedding DJ
Professionalism might not be the flashiest topic, but it’s huge. You want someone who turns up early, communicates clearly, and makes everything feel easy.
From the first message to the last song, I aim to make things as stress-free as possible. You’ve already got enough to think about without worrying about setup times or whether the DJ’s brought spare cables — that’s all part of my job.
A professional DJ should make you feel confident from the moment you book them.
Music Selection and Flexibility
Every couple’s taste is different, and that’s what keeps things fun for me. My music library covers just about everything from the 60’s right up to today. My stronger areas are 00’s R&B and Hip Hop, 80’s–present dance music, Soul, Disco, and those nostalgic chart hits from the 00’s and 10’s.
When we plan your night, I’ll always ask about your must-plays, do-not-plays, and any songs that have special meaning. Once the night starts, I read the crowd and adapt on the fly — sometimes that means dropping a forgotten classic, other times it’s about creating an unexpected transition that gets everyone cheering. That’s the part I love most.
Technical Setup and Reliability
A great DJ doesn’t just turn up with a laptop and a speaker. The right setup can completely transform your evening.
Sound quality, lighting, and preparation all play a huge part. I always arrive early, do sound checks, and bring backups for everything — microphones, cables, speakers, you name it. If something technical goes wrong (which can happen to anyone), it gets sorted quietly and quickly so the party never stops.
When you’re speaking with DJs, don’t be afraid to ask about their equipment and what backup plans they have in place. The pros will always have clear answers.
Red Flags to Watch Out For
A few things to look out for when booking your DJ:
No clear contract or pricing
Poor communication
Lack of experience with weddings specifically
If a DJ seems unorganised or vague, that’s usually a sign of what’s to come. Go with your gut — if something feels off, keep looking.
Final Thoughts
Finding the right wedding DJ isn’t just about who has the biggest playlist. You want someone with experience, energy, and the ability to adapt to the moment.
The best DJs know when to drop the perfect track, when to let a song breathe, and when to take the energy up a level. When it all comes together — the music, the lighting, the crowd — it really is special. That’s what makes a wedding night a night you and your guests won't forget.
One Last Tip
Once you’ve narrowed it down to a couple of DJs, I’d really recommend a quick call or video chat before you book. It’s the easiest way to see if you click. You’ll usually know within minutes whether they’re the right person to trust with your night.
Music can be planned — but the connection between you, your guests, and your DJ? That can be the difference between a good night and an amazing night.
